Harvey: It’s a hoopin and hollerin good time as these two teams wish the swish five balloons in the basket, the first couple to accomplish this wacky goal will break away with $25 and control of the first round on the QUICKEST game show on television.

DING DING DING DING DING

Marc: You can stop right there, no you don’t need to do that any more… you got $25 Come over here let’s play some family Double Dare

Harvey: IT’S FAMILY DOUBLE DARE And here’s your host of Family Double Dare, Marc Summers

Marc: Hi There! Nice to see you, It’s Family Double Dare

I could listen to those words every day, all day, for weeks at a time, and not tire of them.

Marc Summers is a sloppy and amazing television host. He was the master and commander of green gooky slime. When it came to getting people dressed in brightly colored jump suits, sliding down plastic paint covered slides, and jumping through physical challenges that left them in an utter mess, he was second to none.

But Marc had a deep dark secret. He was massively into OCD. No, not some drug that the kids are doing on the corners of every street in town, but Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. He would freak out if the shirts in his closet weren’t spaced exactly 1/4″ apart, or if the tassels on his rug were mussed.

This same man, Marc Summers, the “Sultan of Slime,” who made Jack Nicholson in As Good As It Gets look like Normy McNormal, was covered in whipped cream, oatmeal, pudding, Gak, Slime, Floam, and every other Nickelodeon product known to man ever show.

When Marc would be doing a chick, if he didn’t feel like it was going exactly right, he would do her over and over again until it was exactly right. And even then when he would pull out, he would put it in a little plastic baggie to make sure the sheets didn’t get dirty. For some people that might sound like a good lover, but to Marc it was all the OCD making love and not him.

But regardless of his personal habits, Double Dare, Super Sloppy Double Dare, Family Double Dare, and Double Dare 2000 (Marc was the producer) were incredible shows. The physical challenge changed the way that families settled disputes in their own homes.

When I would get in a fight with my brother, we would wheel out our 1-Ton Human Hamster wheel and spin it until one of us puked. When Double Dare went off the air it was a sad day for everyone, but then Nick GAS came along and made everything better. Now on Game And Sports, we can once again gaze loftily at Marc Summers and his incredible slime masterpiece. For getting dirty as hell and loving it, today Marc Summers, you are the Daily Hero.
